Spoiled Food DIsposal

County residents are welcome to dispose of spoiled household food at no cost at County-operated transfer stations through this weekend. Stations will be open between 7:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on the following days:

  • Friday, May 18: Monticello
  • Saturday, May 19: Monticello, Rockland, Highland and Western Sullivan
  • Sunday, May 20: Ferndale and Mamakating


Orange County

The Red Cross opened an overnight shelter at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, the City of Newburgh on 5/16/2018

Dutchess County

Donations accepted by United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region now through Friday 5/25/2018 in effort to support the city of Newburgh residents and others.

Please bring your donations to United Way offices in Poughkeepsie (75 Market Street) during business hours (Mon-Fri, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm)

100% of donations will go to the purchase of the items listed below.

Items are distributed to the residents in need at central gathering points.

These locations include Blacc Vanilla, the Liberty Street Crisis BBQ, RECAP Newburgh office and the Newburgh Activity Center.


We are requesting donations of: 

  • Hand-held Snack Items (granola bars, peanut butter crackers, etc.)
  • Pop-top Ready-to-Eat items (applesauce or fruit cups)
  • Easily Opened, Shelf-Stable Pantry Items (peanut butter, jelly, bread)
  • Diapers (size: 4,5,6)
  • Pull-Ups
  • Any Baby Wipes (crucial need both for children and adults without access to electricity and water)
  • Adult Diapers (M, L, XL)
  • Personal Hygiene Products for Babies & Adults (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Portable cell phone battery chargers 
  • Coolers
  • Ice


Putnam County

Most Putnam County Offices would be open at their normal time for Friday, May 18, 2018.


Comfort Stations will remain open today. All comfort stations have bathroom facilities and will provide an area to recharge your electronic devices.
