Autonomous groups of individuals who share a common problem or concern, either directly or through their partners and families, who meet together on a voluntary basis, either in-person, by telephone or via the Internet, to fulfill a need, overcome a disability or cope with a crisis. Members of mutual support groups share their experiences, strengths and hopes and rely on one another for emotional support, information and resources. Included are professionally-facilitated groups, faith-based and secular 12-step models with or without professional participation, groups that use a set of guidelines prepared by a national organization or headquarters, and groups that have no professional participation and/or no specifically-structured format.

BREAST HEALTH CENTEROffers the following services for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer: laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy, social services, radiography, MRI, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, CT Scanning, Computerized Tomography, nuclear medicine and ultrasound in addition to a full-range of psycho-social and nutrition services. The Tumor Registry has a database of over 6,700 cases established since January 1983. The center also offers support groups for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Other support groups are for their caregivers, spouses and significant others. HERRICKS ALZHEIMER'S DAY PROGRAM OUR SPACEProvides the opportunity for those who have Alzheimer's or Dementia the chance to engage in social and recreational activities led by trained staff and volunteers who are understanding and accepting. Participant must be 60 years old, a Nassau County resident, diagnosed as having Alzheimer's Disease or dementia, under the care of a physician, able to feed self with minimal assistance, continent, and be able to benefit from the program. Meetings feature speakers on various aspects of blindness, related health subjects, local politics, and other topics of interest to the group. Volunteer drivers transport members, many of whom are elderly and suffering with macular degeneration to meetings, field trips, grocery shopping and doctor appointments. OFFICE FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLEResponds to all allegations of sexual abuse of a minor by a priest, deacon, or other religious officials. The Diocesan Review Board reviews the case and sends their recommendation to the Bishop. In the Induction Phase, which runs 4-5 months, students complete the 14 Group Studies for New Christians' and Character Quality classes. During this phase discipline and order are taught through the development and application of Christian Principles. SOCIAL TRAINING CENTERProvides therapeutic services to high school and college-aged individuals and their families, in order to help negotiate life adjustments such as the social, academic and vocational challenges. Most adolescents and young adults with Asperger’s want to find a safe forum to discuss and explore topics that can be very difficult to address. We provide group and individual processing opportunities to students. This enables them to share and explore their experiences dealing with disabilities in areas such as understanding social cues, executive functioning difficulties, family dynamics, sexuality and dating concerns, establishing and maintaining relationships, and work-related problems. The Social Training Center provides ongoing therapeutic and support services in groups and individual counseling sessions to high school and college-aged individuals, between ages 15-22, with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism. Each group is comprised of individuals matched according to age, interests and developmental needs. Group sessions last 1-hour, and individual sessions are 45-minutes. Each participant will be charged a moderate fee for individual and group sessions.
