BUILDING BETTER ATHLETES CAMPDesigned to train athletes from the ground up. Our progressions are designed to create sound training habits that will transfer over onto the field, court, track, or pool. Our program focuses on the 6 components to building better athletes. The Six Components to the Building Better Athletes include: Athlete Profile; Movement Preparation; Movement Training; Strength; Energy System Development; and Recovery and Regeneration. The highly qualified staff led by Stony Brook Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Performance George Greene prides themselves on creating a positive encouraging environment where athletes can grow both physically and mentally. The Program: On day one each athlete will be assessed using our movement screen to determine strengths and weaknesses as well as address any limiting factors for performance. Additionally, we will test the vertical jump, broad jump, 10-yard sprint, pro-agility, and a combination of upper and lower body strength tests depending on their age. Once we gather this information, we will put each athlete on a 6-week program specific to their needs. The Session formats include: First Quarter: Warm-up/Soft Tissue Work/Dynamic Flexibility; Second Quarter: Speed/Agility/Plyos; Third Quarter: Strength Training; Fourth Quarter: Energy System Development and Overtime: Education and Regeneration. CENTER FOR RECREATION AND SPORTS MEMBERSHIPSOffers alumni, family members of current faculty, staff and students as well as affiliates and local residents the opportunity to "have fun and be active" by joining one of the Center for Recreation and Sports (CRS) Membership Programs. All CRS membership programs allow the member to come and work out/play in our new, state of the art recreational facilities during regularly scheduled hours. These facilities include: State of the art, 5,000 sq.ft. Recreational Fitness Center including 28 cardio machines, Cybex selectorized weight circuit and 14 free weight stations, cable machines and a stretching area; 4 lane, 25 yard swimming pool; 1/10 mile indoor track with scenic views to the outdoors; 3 court gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and badminton; Indoor racket courts (1 conversion racquetball court and 1 dedicated squash court); Outdoor tennis courts (4) and Locker rooms with grooming stations and shower rooms. These include learning theories, social and psychological issues, principles of organization and administration, kinesthetic theories, injury care, and exercise and nutritional considerations.
